Can Females Force Their Husbands, Boyfriends, or Male Relatives to Be Healthier?

Seven out of 10 Jamaicans died from the four major NCDs: Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes, and Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease.

Listening to the six o’clock news this morning, these words sent my blood pressure up: “Females must force and demand that their husbands, boyfriends, brothers, fathers, grandfathers, and other males in their lives start taking their health seriously. Demand that they eat healthier and go out and exercise!”

I wish he were close by so I could pour some ice-cold water on him. In my culture, most females have two choices:
Be strong and live alone with more control over their lives. Fewer health problems, too.
Or be weak and allow someone, meaning a male, to control your life, with many health issues. They will control what you eat, where you go, what you think, say, and do. But you will never be alone. Men who want control find weak women.
Most Jamaican men don’t want strong, independent females. They want control. They don’t want a woman who thinks for herself, with her own thoughts and ideas. It’s all about control for most of them.
A male told me that he can’t be with a female who is more successful than he is. He is unaware that independent women don’t want weak men. We want equal strength, we don’t want control or power.
Men Urged to Monitor Their Health - JN Life Insurance
Health professionals are appealing to Jamaican men to monitor their health as more males suffer from elevated blood…
“We find that men generally don’t come to us sometimes until it is too late to do much about their illnesses. JN Life Insurance
Their health isn’t that important.
“They can be very difficult to work with when it comes to things that may impact their health positively. If you tell them to eat more vegetables, they may say they aren’t rabbits or other animals. If you tell them to cut down on alcohol, they will raise objections. In fact, in preparing their meal plans, if you say cut down on the meat, they’ll ask what you expect them to eat?” she added. ‘Can be difficult’ is an understatement. It’s hell to get my husband to follow my healthy lifestyle. They learn after the disease hits them. Not before.
“From my experience, many men do not take their health seriously,” she revealed and “When you tell them to check their prostate, especially if they’re over 40, some will ask why it is important, or make some excuse as to why they won’t do it,” she revealed.
As I said, most men learn after hell arrives.
Consequently, more men need to adopt better health-seeking behaviours because male life expectancy in Jamaica is 72 years, while for women it is 76 years. JN Life Insurance
Males are the only ones feeling their pain. Only they can decide to live healthier lives.
“Members of the life insurance industry will point out that women are also more willing to purchase policies for coverage against unforeseen circumstances than men. JN Life Insurance
Women don’t have a choice. The world, children, and the next generation rely on us to be smarter and make sensible, healthy life decisions. I practice healthy living so that my children can see it and imitate it. That’s all females can do. We can’t force males to do what they don’t want to do.
We need men to take their health seriously because of the impact it has on our economy and families. JN Life Insurance
Their lack of care for themselves put a lot of pressure on women. Life doesn’t give some of us a choice but to fight for what makes sense. Many don’t mind doing it alone.
If your heart could speak, what would it say?
