The Cave of the Wild Bear

Writer's picture: Warren BrownWarren Brown

When the bear was a cub, it was in awe of everything that it saw. When the bear was bigger it was getting used to life in the jungle. It was only after its parents were shot by poachers, that the bear went wild.

The bear tore through the forest in its rage. It destroyed all the huts it came across in the nearby village. That was not enough, the bear went on to destroy the bridge that was used regularly by the villagers. That was also not enough, the bear went on to break all the canoes that the villagers kept moored at the stream.

The bear was furious and nothing could calm it down. After two days of being on a rampage, the bear was tired. It broke the branch of a tree where there was a bee hive and he ripped out the honey. He did not care if he was stung by a thousand bees. The bear was still angry at the death of his parents and the pain from the stings did not worry him.

A writer usually has a wake-up call, when he or she suddenly decides to take up writing. It could be as a child, a teenager or as an adult, when an individual feels the desire to write. At times a person writes because there is something that needs to be said and the world needs to know about it. This is particularly true when the writer takes up a cause and needs to write with passion, in either supporting or against a situation or a cause. This time in the life of a writer, can be compared to when a bear goes on a rampage in the forest. In the beginning, the writer is lost in a forest of ideas, as twigs, branches and other life distractions come in their way. When the writer is finally frustrated and overcome by all the ideas and thoughts, he or she decides to just rest.

As the bear slept. He saw his parents and he knew that they were together and they were safe and out of harm's way from the hunters. He could see in his dream that he needed to make his way through life and this could be done if he had a clear head. When the bear awoke from sleep, he sat and looked around his environment, which was his cave and he knew he was comfortable and calm. He found that his reason for living was to celebrate the life that was given to him.

When a writer first starts on the literary path, he or she can get overpowered with the right way and the wrong way to create any piece of work. Should he or she write like another writer or just write with their voice and develop their style.? Then there is the question, will people like or dislike my work and what could I do for them to like my writing? At this time the writer needs to step back, be grateful for life and his or her passion for writing and write something that matters to him or her.

Life for a writer is about evolution, imagination, life experiences and turning every idea into something more powerful, such as a story that can entertain and educate a reader. Being a writer can be fun and interesting when your work is both fun and exhilarating for you.
