What if children ruled the world?

Three mothers of different races sat in the park, watching their children play together.

Another mother of a different race came by with her son. He went to join the other three boys.

All four women watched as their children played together. They were enjoying themselves and teaching each other new things. Each child shared something of their heritage, which the others found fascinating. As they keep playing something different from their heritage, each mother identifies with a smile.

One of the mothers said, “Isn’t it beautiful? How does race mean nothing to them?”

“Yeah,” the other mother answers. “We all started that way. Race meant nothing to us as children?”

“We forget,” another answer in reflection. “We forget that no matter the color of our skin, each of our hearts is the same color.”

“Different skin color but the same color heart,” someone confirms. “I wonder if all of humanity is aware of that. I don’t think so, or Racism wouldn’t be.”

“Yeah,” one of the mothers agrees, “Racism is the chord that comes between love and hate. But children managed to keep that chord out of their lives.”

“Yeah,” one of the mothers said. “How come we as adults aren’t able to do that? We do know the difference between love and hate.”

“I think they are smarter than us,” one mother said.

“I agree. Today I learn something new about life. I learned that if children ruled the world, racism and hatred would have no place to thrive.”

Children teach adults many things. Some said it’s because of their innocence and lack of experience in life and living. What do you think? What lessons did children teach you?

If your heart could speak, what would it say?

The best things I learned in life I learned from children.

Thank you for reading this piece. I hope you enjoyed it.
