Simon looked at the old coat on the rack. It was looking faded; the material was not as shiny as it used to be. He would wear the coat in the sun and the rain. Simon took good care of that coat and he had worn it for more than five years. Perhaps it was time that he gave it away or discarded it because no one else would wear it. Yet, it was a comfortable coat and he loved every part of it. The coat protected him in the rain, the winds and in winter. He needed a new coat and although it would break his heart, he needed to replace it for the New Year.
Do you have an old coat that you want to give away for someone more deserving to wear or do you want to keep it with you for another year? There are many of us, who are comfortable doing the things we enjoy doing every day, every week and month of the year. We do not want to change; we prefer it when things are the same.
There are others who are braver and enjoy doing their work and living their lives in different ways. They push the boundaries and have the courage to do new things, learn new things and take the time and effort to change. Change is not easy and everyone is not able to adapt, though we are all capable of adapting to new ways of living and working.
Are you the type of person who would be willing to change your old habits and replace them with new ones? These new habits may not be easy to do for us but we can learn to change in life. Perhaps it is time for you to get a new coat, to try out something new, like learning a new language, playing an instrument or visiting a new place, in the New Year.
